Registered Nurse Care Contribution (RNCC)
Article date: 25.10.07
At the end of 2007 there were some changes to the Registered Nurse Care Contribution (RNCC) and a flat payment of £101 pw is now payable. Although the existing banding has been abolished; It appears that if an individual was receiving the benefit at a higher level, however, that individual will continue to receive the higher payment.
Until the rule changes the limited help available depended on your level of need, split between three categories, lower, medium and higher. Someone deemed to need a good amount of care could receive £139 weekly, someone with medium needs £87, and someone with low requirements £40. This cash was paid directly by the NHS to the nursing home.
However, local primary trusts set their own hurdles to determine who fell into which category, leading to regional discrepancies. From October, everyone will get £101 across the country. Those currently getting £139 will be reassessed, and if they are still deemed to need a higher level of care, then this award will continue. However, if their condition has improved, then support may be cut back. It does mean, though, that in future £101 will be the maximum payout unless patients qualify for full continuous care, removing scope for the frailest to receive the higher award of £139.
