Asset Protection & Long Term Care Seminar for Solicitors
Article date: 03.10.08
Solicitors were invited from across the region to attend the seminar, entitled “Asset Protection and Long Term Care”, which was hosted by care fees specialists, The Wealth Care Partnership who are based in Fordingbridge.
Karen Rayner, a Partner in The Wealth Care Partnership and Jonathan Wilkey, a Solicitor, Lecturer and Training Consultant took their audience through some of the challenges faced by professionals advising the elderly and their families, concluding with some new ideas on protecting the family assets from erosion due to funding long term care fees.
“Never before has it been so essential that professionals in different areas of advice for the elderly, work together.” states Karen Rayner. “People are living longer and the demographics in the UK are changing. There are more over 60’s now than under 16’s.*” she adds, “With an ageing population there is an increasing need for long term care advice. Anyone with assets over £22,250** will not get help from the Local Authority so will need to fund their own care. The average cost of a nursing home across the Country is £664 per week and very few have enough income to fund this, so will need to use their capital. Long term care is a complex area and everyone deserves specialist advice on protecting the family assets from the ravages of the cost of care.”
The Wealth Care Partnership plan to host further seminars in the area on this subject, commencing in the New Year. “We believe that services provided by Solicitors and Independent Financial Advisers, dovetail perfectly and we are very excited about working together helping the elderly living in the area with the best advice possible” concluded Karen Rayner.
