Based in Fordingbridge, Karen has been advising later life clients for 20 years and is now one of the UK’s leading specialists in advising the elderly and their families on funding care fees. Karen is qualified to give long term care advice and is a member of the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and the Society for Later Life Advisers (SOLLA).
On receiving this award Karen said “It is always a pleasure to be recognised for your hard work and the Health Insurance annual awards are very much coveted by intermediaries and product providers alike. What is important to me is if this, and previous awards, help people to feel confident to speak to The Wealth Care Partnership it has done its job.”
Around 130,000 people enter residential care each year with around 53,000 having to pay their own care fees because their assets are above £23,250 (England 2010). Only around 7,000 of these people are believed to have received specialist advice at this crucial time. Karen believes this is because people don’t know they should do so. “We find the majority of people who have the responsibility to make financial decisions for an elderly person simply don’t realise they should speak to a specialist who will help them with their options.” Karen pointed out, “One option available guarantees a high level of income to the care provider for the rest of that person’s life, removing anxiety and the risk that someone may outlive their capital. I am dedicated to spreading this knowledge to those who need it most.”
Karen produces an annual colour Guide to Care Fees Planning which is freely available via care providers, charities or via The Wealth Care Partnership website www.twcp.co.uk. It has been recognised and praised throughout the care industry and helped thousands of people faced with funding care.
She has also been instrumental in creating Care2Plan, an innovative website designed for people to obtain an Options Report relating to their personal situation. This is an excellent site for those who are just embarking on financial planning for an elderly person and would like to educate themselves on their options without engaging a financial adviser at the outset.
